1. Power of personality: Bella is back
The first spot in our list went to Victoria’s Secret, which featured 2016 model of the year Bella Hadid in her first appearance since rejoining the brand in December 2021. Transgender model Valentina Sanpaio, plus-size model Paloma Elsesser and other mould-breaking icons were also featured. The brand’s 2021 departure from its traditional, “angel wings” aesthetic to a more body-positive and inclusive one seems to have found a home among the hearts of consumers.
2. One love: Representation for all
Jewelry brands like Pandora and Swarovski included a variety of LGBTQ2S+ representation in their video ads, illustrating the diversity and global appeal of Valentine’s Day and reinforcing the ideal that love has no bounds.
3. V-Day in 2021: Not just for her
Although many of the ads in our list featured both sexes, Manscaped’s ad was the only one that exclusively targeted men. Although it only placed tenth on our list, it could signal that retailers are aiming to widen their target market and promote Valentine’s Day as a retail holiday for all.
